Job Description & Requirements
- Position/Grade: CNC Machining Cost Estimator
- Reports to: Business Development Manager
- Job Responsibilities:
- Review specifications for requests for quotations and prepare detailed estimates for CNC Machining, Work Holding, Assembly, and Outside Operations
- Compile and analyze project requirements including design records of all types, specifications, bills of material, annual usage and program life cycle information.
- Utilizing provided information to develop low cost, high quality, high reliability manufacturing process for new or existing applications.
- Process estimates to include recommendations for most efficient machines and tools to be utilized.
- Utilizing the company’s estimation model prepare a detailed estimate of, machine cycle time, manpower requirements, machine tool utilization, initial tooling requirements, tooling cost per piece requirements, initial gauging and inspection equipment requirements.
- Provide concepts and analysis of equipment, tools, fixtures and gauges required.
- As necessary, obtain quotes for equipment and outside processes to support the estimation process.
- Interact with customers supporting the Sales Group as requested.
- Participate in product launches and other continuous improvement efforts as identified.
- Drive continuous improvement and standardization in processing methods.
- Skills Required:
- Solid background and experience in CNC machining, metal removal processing, metal cutting tooling, CNC milling and CNC lathe operation.
- Ability to read and analyze part and mechanical drawings in all forms including 3D models with a thorough understanding of GD&T.
- Thorough knowledge of machine tools and their applications including but not limited to horizontal milling machines, lathes, grinders and hones.
- Thorough knowledge of work holding concepts and design.
- Thorough knowledge of tooling.
- Able to provide alternative design recommendations for ease of processing and manufacturability.
- Proven ability to analyze data and provide effective solutions for continuous improvement.
- Proven experience creating and meeting project budgets.
- Proven ability to construct and execute project timelines.
- A good understanding of ergonomic constraints and machine safety best practices in both manual processing and machine design.
- Ability to evaluate machining processes to reduce non-value-added elements to increase or better utilize a machine or a cell capacity.
- Structured problem-solving skills.
- Basic knowledge of foundry processing methods and terminology.
- Working knowledge of time & motion studies including workstation and line balancing techniques.
- Ability to apply Lean Manufacturing techniques.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
- Good working knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks, Mastercam, and/or Fusion 360.
- Experience with commonly used estimation tools and software.

Compensation
- Pay will be based on relevant job experience. Pay range is $75,000 to $116,000 per year.
